Following an initial audit of our environmental impacts the following commitments have been identified for achievement this year:
Avoid unnecessary journeys by utilising the full potential for alternative communication in the following hierarchy: a) E-mail with electronic file attachments; b) Phone; and c) Post.
Where journeys are necessary the following hierarchy applies: a) Foot; b) Bike; c) Public transport - train, bus, taxi; d) Car share; and e) Car.
We minimise the quantity of supplies required by the following actions:
Utilise the full potential for electronic communication as follows: a) E-mail with electronic file attachments; and b) Website with downloadable documents.
Develop website and place documents and links on this.
Obtain PDF writer to enable placing of documents to be placed in the public domain securely.
Utilise re-writable CDs or floppy discs.
Print out documents only where necessary, and wherever possible in A5 format (2 sheets to a page).
Encourage business partners to utilise electronic fax facility provided by YAC.
Source staple-free stapler.
Reuse all paper received/inherited applying reuse stamp where applicable.
Refill ink cartridges.
Obtain envelope reuse labels.
Salvage incoming or inherited sources of stationery e.g. covers, spines etc.
Establish if envelopes can be recycled.
Send single use CDs for recycling.
Continue to work towards establishment of recycling scheme in village to serve businesses as well as homes.
